The weir marks the upper reach of the tidal River Severn. Five hours, ten minutes after a high tide at Avonmouth the river rises over one foot up the face of the weir. This surprises anglers who find their floats at Kempsey moving upstream, and their wellingtons flooding.
With a clear warning that sea levels will rise twenty four feet Worcester can expect to have all riverside roads permanently covered and bridge approaches blocked. The river will be several hundred yards wide and St. Johns will be separated from the City.
With the seawater reaching Strensham the City will lose its water supply and will have to establish a new treatment plant above Bevere.
The proposed Worcester Lighthouse will look foolish standing in a lake. Max Sinclair.
